Email/account is already in use

If you are receiving the error below when trying to create an account then this article is for you:

Email/account is already in use. Please use the 'Recover Account' option if you forgot your password.

Option 1

It is advised that you create a new email account to be used with the account. With a free email service such as gmail or hotmail

Option 2

If you and your spouse share one email address or if your email address is no longer supported by your previous login provider then option 2 is for you

If you are seeing the error above all you need to do is add a +myadventist just before the @ sign as shown below:

Emails sent to your email address with the +myadventist still appear in your email in box

Steps below:

1. Browse https://myadventist.org. You will be directed to the login page. Click New Profile
   
   
   
2. On the New Profile page, click the New Password Account option just below Staff Account then click Password
   
   
   
3. Enter your name and email address with the +myadventist before the @ sign.
   
   
   
4. You will then receive a notification email from noreply@adventist.org.au. Click the Set My Password link
   
   
   
5. Set password 
   
6. You should now be able to login using the Password login option. 
   Note: If your reason to do this is because your email address is no longer supported by your previous login provider, contact servicedesk@adventist.org.au and request that your previous account be merged with the newly created profile.
   

Understanding the +MyAdventist

The + has a very useful meaning for only Gmail's email service, as the characters after it are ignored

ie, Email+myadventist@gmail.com and Email@gmail.com are treated as the same email address

As the +myadventist part of the email address is ignored by Gmail.
